Shop Spotlight: Sadie Designs

If you're looking to wear one of a kind jewellery pieces made with raw crystals you'll be in heaven at Sadie Designs. Sarah's unique and feminine style is remarkable and her shop represents all that is original and natural. You'll also find some beautiful wooden jewellery pieces to dress up your look. Wear a Sadie Designs original and you will surely get noticed. Please take a moment to get to know Sarah a little more.

Oh Canada: Of all the things that you sell, which item or style is your favorite?

Sarah: My favourite piece is always changing. Right now I really love geometric stone pendants, like the pink and green pastel triangles that I use to make my Miriam necklaces and the amazing crystal quartz pendants that I use in my pendulum necklaces.

Oh Canada: Where did you learn your skills?

Sarah: When I have an idea for something that I'd like to make I generally teach myself how to do it through a lot of research and trial and error. I do find that the people who work at local supply shops are really helpful in pointing me in the direction of new materials or helping me learn new techniques. When I was learning to use the laser cutter to make my baltic birch pieces I spent a lot of time watching amazing YouTube videos about drawing in Illustrator (the computer program that I use). I love that people take the time to make tutorials for others just out of their own love of the subject matter.

Oh Canada: Everyone has different motivations for making their unique wares. What drives you to create?

Sarah: As a landscape architecture intern, a lot of my design work stays in the computer and is done on the screen. I started making jewelry as a way to work creatively with physical materials. I love experimenting, the tiny scale of jewelry pieces, and making something that is 100% unique. Making jewelry makes me happy after a long day drafting architecture projects on the computer.

Oh Canada: If you could learn to use any new technique or material, what would it be?

Sarah: While I was finishing up my degree I bought myself a steel bench block as a promise that I would teach myself more involved metalsmithing techniques this summer. I really want to start working with copper and repurposing some of the metal plates that I used to make etchings in my fine arts degree.

Oh Canada: Any plans to incorporate a new product into your shop this year?

Sarah: I really do dream of adding photographs to Sadie Designs. I love taking pictures and have a bunch of really fun cameras. For now, my blog is where I share my photos, but I do hope to be able to offer some prints in the future in the Sadie shop. Perhaps even some large scale photographic posters.

Oh Canada: What is your favorite thing about selling on Etsy?

Sarah: Etsy has been a great place to connect with other sellers. I love being part of national and regional teams and meeting like-minded creative types. Ultimately, though, I most appreciate Etsy for giving me a fun venue to connect with potential customers from all over the world. This week I shipped orders to Sweden, Germany, Australia and Winnipeg. I love writing out those addresses, it's exciting to think of people half the world away wearing a piece of jewelry that I made.

Oh Canada: Do you have a number one tip for new sellers?

Sarah: Just keep going! It takes a while for people to learn about your shop and in the meantime you can spend your time perfecting your techniques and improving the appearance of your shop. Concentrating on making the best possible product you can will get you far, so stick with it!

Oh Canada: What is your favorite thing to buy on Etsy?

Sarah: I love shopping on Etsy! I buy a lot of jewelry and supplies, but I also love buying paper goods and accessories. I'm planning my wedding for the fall and I know I'll be buying things from a lot of fabulous Canadian Etsy shops as we get ready.

Oh Canada: What is the number one best item in your shop right now?

Sarah: The best-selling items in my shop are definitely the dipped crystal pendant necklaces. Right now amethyst is the most popular, but around the holidays it was the citrine points. I've been making these necklaces almost since I opened my shop and I really can't see myself stopping any time soon.

Here's a special message from Sarah:
Thanks so much for featuring me on the team blog. As a special thanks to my Oh Canada teammates you can always use the coupon code "FRIENDS" in the Sadie shop for 10% off your order. Happy spring, everyone!

So drop by the Sadie Designs shop and buy yourself something special. You can also keep up with Sarah through her Blog, Facebook, and Twitter.

Stella Sightings!

Lately, I've seen lots of Stella & Dot sighting on TV and in magazines, which makes me very happy! I think the most obvious Stella & Dot supporters are the Real Housewives of the OC...I mean, I seriously can't watch an episode without some S&D piece making an appearance!

This week's episode was no exception!

Here's Tamra with her seemingly nice boyfriend Eddie. This is not actual footage from the show, but the picture that was taken of her wearing this particular necklace wasn't a great shot. (If you want to go back and see it on the show, it's the clip with her meeting former OC Housewife, Lynn Curtin, for drinks.

A behind the scenes clip from BRAVO tv...Tamra sporting the same necklace!

Get your own 'Nolita' Necklace here

Here's another OC Housewife, Alexis, wearing the 'La Coco Chain Necklace' in Gold during one of her interviews! This is a fabulous necklace that you can wear long, doubled short or layered with other necklaces. There are also brooches that can be purchased, which clip right on for a whole other look!

Get your own here You won't be disappointed!

Tamra again...this time wearing the 'Bardot Spiral Bangle' in BOTH the gold and silver...love them together!

Get one or both here! silver or gold

Don't love the housewives? Okay, but you gotta admit they have great taste in jewelry! :) Also, on this week's Stella & Dot tv appearance was Chelsea Handler on her show Chelsea Lately wearing the 'Starry Night Necklace.' I wear mine layered with other delicate gold chains all the time!

Get yours here!

Okay, now I feel like my blogging week is complete, having done my shameless plugging of Stella & Dot. One the plus side though, it really is fabulous jewelry and if you don't own any...you should! Also, keep your eyes out as I will be doing a really awesome Stella & Dot free giveaway very soon!!! Feel free to give me ideas on what to give away!

Jewel Kade stole my heart!

The moment I set eyes on Jewel Kade for the first time, I was hooked.  I had never seen anything so beautiful and unique in my life!  I had a very Napoleon Dynamite moment (you know, where Uncle Rico is selling Tupperware to the couple and offers to throw in that hideous sail boat for free) and thought "I wahnt that!"  My husband talked me into selling it and here I got that! You would think that since I sell it, the excitement would begin to diminish over time, however, my heart still pounds in anticipation of sneak peeks of the new catalogs and seasonal charms.  Janet keeps surprising me with her stellar designs and I am smitten by Jewel Kade!

Nude, Nude and more Nude!

Okay, so this is the second installation of "my favorite things." One of my all time favorite things, whether it's in style or not (which it happens to be right now), is Nude. And by Nude I mean the color! :) Every wardrobe needs it...it's the ultimate neutral!

So need some Nude in your closet? Here's how to incorporate it into your closet without having to buy a whole new wardrobe! AND if you really love the color, or just love to shop, then I suggest you try all of these...you will not be disappointed!

Every wardrobe should have a pair of flats, even if you love and live in heels! If you were to only have one pair of flats in your closet, it must be a nude flat! After all nude is the new black...and black does NOT go with everything, while nude DOES!
Here are my top three picks for you to try! (Also, something to keep in mind when picking out a nude shoe, pick a shade that is closest to your natural skin tone...it's amazing how it helps elongate the leg!)
Corso Como 'Festive' $60 Buy Here

Steve Madden 'Koool' $66 Buy Here

Tory Burch 'Eddie' $178 Buy Here

Refuse to buy a flat, addicted to heels or want both? Here are my three top picks for Nude heels! (There are probably 20 pairs of nude heels that I could post here because there is such a large selection right now, so you should definitely find what works best for YOU! Just make sure that whatever you pick goes with the majority of things in your closet.)

Nine West 'Woodland' $89 Buy Here

Ivanka Trump (ps. her new line of shoes is fab!) $120 Buy Here

Pelle Moda 'Heat' $145 Buy Here

And I'm going to throw in an extra for all you wedge lovers, especially the preggos out there who don't want to just live in flats for 9 months!

Dolce Vita 'Jade' $180 Buy Here
I know it's a little pricey for most, but you're paying for comfort as well as style! This shoe will definitely last you! It will take you through the 9 months and beyond! (I'm all about buying things that will work during AND after the pregnancy) Still not sold? Here's a pair for the more thrifty preggo..

Aldo 'Affina' $90 Buy Here
Aldo also has similar styles in a variety of heel heights too!

The Nude Dress...next time you reach in your closet for the same boring lbd (little black dress) consider trying a Nude dress instead! Still a neutral and most times you can wear the same shoes and accessories that you would have used with the black dress!

ASOS BLACK 'Heavy Ruffle Shoulder Dress' $89 Buy Here

Top Shop 'Nude Sleeveless Tuck Detail Dress' $95 Buy Here

Amanda Uprichard 'Mock Wrap Body Dress' $194 Buy Here

Don't worry Preggos! A couple maternity options...

Asos Maternity $63 Buy Here

Asos Maternity $72 Buy Here

And last but definitely not least is the Nude handbag! Here are three must have styles!

Jessica Simpson 'Katie Convertible Satchel' $69 Buy Here

Top Shop 'Nude Lock Hold All' $75 Buy Here

Rebecca Minkoff 'Large Savage Clutch' $236 Buy Here

And the Winner is.....

Congratulations to GollyGeeGeorge for winning the April OCT Treasury Challenge. She has chosen this item from her shop for the May Challenge.

Please include this Mobile in a treasury with at least 10 other Oh Canada Team Members. What would be really great is if the last 6 are also Canadian Etsians too, but they certainly don't have to be.

Also, be sure to tag your treasury with "OCT challenge", "ohcanadateam" and "etsyteams" and include the phrase "OCT challenge" somewhere in your title so your treasury can be easily found.

The Challenge will end on June 1st at midnight. Over the week following we will gather the votes for the most popular T.

Spring Fun!

It's Spring! That means that with the warmer weather, we get even more busy with outside activities! I don't know about you, but I'm ready to get outdoors more! We've been taking advantage of each nice day with visits to the park, going for walks downtown and playing outside at Grammie and Granpi's!

Here are some recent pictures! Maddie had a photo shoot for a children's magazine, which was a very looong and tiring day, BUT very fun! We visited Butler's Orchard for their annual Bunnyland event, had some fun outdoor time at my parents AND Maddie had her 2nd birthday party at The Little Gym! Hope you enjoy our pictures and hopefully I'll be better about uploading pictures so that you're not bombarded next time! LOL

Isn't she yummy?? :)
