Layering Pearls add pizazz to any outfit!

If you've been reading this blog, you know that Jewel Kade's specialty is in their hand-crafted charms which look absolutely phenomenal LAYERED.  If you think you can't pull off that look, think again!  It's the fabulous "layering pearls" to the rescue!  Put this strand on, and you'll not only look like a million bucks, but you'll feel like a JK superstar who can layer like a veteran! :)

Here's some tips on how this necklace can be worn:
  • wear it long with a knot at the bottom
  • wrap it 2 times
  • hey, wrap it 3 times!
  • wrap it around your neck and pull it through like a lariat
  • wrap it twice and tie a knot on the longer layer
  • wrap it twice and pull one strand close to your neck like a choker
I know there's more where that came from--play with it and find out which way suits you!!!  P.S. Don't forget today's the last day to get the Pearl Drop necklace for FREE (when you place an order of $125 or more through my website)--which, by the way looks fabulous with the layering pearls!!!

And The Bride Wore White...

If you weren't up at 3am sipping your tea and eating a scone, fear not! The wedding watched around the world will be airing all day...probably everyday for a while! I tried to wake up that early, but just couldn't get myself together...I think I rolled out of bed around 5:30am, which was actually perfect timing! I was able to catch some pre-wedding footage and then watch the wedding live. (However, I was drinking coffee not tea...and unfortunately no scones and clotted cream)

I am, and have been for YEARS, obsessed with English history. Living in England for three years definitely has had a play in that. If there's a movie about Elizabeth I, Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII, Mary Queen of Scotts, etc...I've seen it! I'm also a Tudors addict and really into the history of the Tudors in general...just can't get enough! So needless to say, witnessing English history right before my eyes was amazing! I love William and Kate's commitment to family tradition while not losing themselves through the pomp and circumstance. When I think of a royal wedding or just a royal event in general, I think of being proper, not cracking a smile, being poised... Somehow the new royal couple managed to be proper and poised, yet crack several smiles and just appear to be really real and down to earth (as much as royalty could be I suppose...)
So of course I have to post some pictures from The Wedding!!

Here are the parents of the bride with the Prince Charles. Carole Middleton was wearing a sky blue wool coat dress and a matching crepe dress underneath by Catherine Walker. I read that Catherine Walker was actually one of Princess Diana's favorite designers.

Prince William and Prince Harry entering Westminster Abbey.

Catherine arriving with her father. PS. with a name like Catherine Elizabeth, I would say she was born to be royalty...wouldn't you??

How stunning is she?? Here's what I love...I love that out of all the tiaras she could have chosen, she chose such simple, yet so beautiful, one. Her tiara is 1930's Cartier, loaned to her by the Queen. Her earrings were a gift from her parents (tear drop diamonds), her bouquet was a fraction of the size of most Royal's, but fit her simple and elegant style! Her veil was gorgeous and had the perfect amount of fabric...we could actually see her face under it! Did I mention that she did her own makeup?? I mean, seriously...love that (having done that myself...hehe) ANNNNND last, but not least, THE DRESS. Let's first talk about how it's an absolute miracle that the design/designer of the dress was not leaked to the press! I personally was in such anticipation to see the dress and find out who designed it. Kate's dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen (perfect choice)! I thought it was simply gorgeous. Traditional with a modern twist, which I love! Her sister, and lady in waiting (pictured above) also wore a dress by Sarah Burton and I have to say that I loved that dress too, although was caught off guard by how low cut it was in the front! ps. Kate's sister, Phillipa Middleton aka "Pippa" was a trending topic on twitter this morning! I read that Pippa is now one of the MOST popular baby names for a girl...just sayin'.

Fergie's girls...the Princesses of York. If you love a good hat, then this wedding would have been a field day for you! The invitation did request that women wear hats (which all proper British women do, to events such as this) although somehow the Prime Minister's wife didn't get the memo *gasp* The Princesses' hats were designed by Phillip Treacy, a favorite of Kate's. He also is the designer of the crazy, yet beautiful, hats worn by SJP on the Sex and the City red carpets. Phillip Treacy dressed over 65 guests from the Royal wedding!! And by looking at some of those hats, it is no surprise!

Some of the pictures from the ceremony...it truly was lovely.

The Queen and Prince Phillip leaving the ceremony...as usual the Queen wore a pastel color, but the yellow was in keeping with the trends!

The Royals being escorted to the Palace after the ceremony...it was gorgeous and the crowd was going crazy!

The newlyweds waiving to the public! I was really impressed by how calm and poised Kate was through the whole thing. She was proper, yet not shy and seemed really comfortable in her new role!

Here are just a few of some really great shots from the crowd! Many dressed up and some REALLY got into character! I love it! I'm glad I got to see it on tv, but really wish I could have been there in person!

THE KISS! We waited about an hour for the newlyweds to come out on to the balcony to kiss! A tradition started by the Prince and Princess of Wales. The crowd cheered for a kiss and they couple willingly obliged...TWICE!

Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge! I am very excited to see what great things they bring to the monarchy, and I have no doubts that they will last! (I hope) :)

If you missed the actual wedding, you can download it online or just turn on the tv...it's replaying on several channels. If you like the fashion aspect of it, tune in to E! for the fashion commentary AND don't forget to tune into fashion police! This royal wedding is a historical moment not to be missed.

Thanks for reading my little recap!

Life is But a Dream...

So as I've stated many times before...sometimes life takes over and you can barely keep your head above water. I could say the same thing to describe my life lately...but what I will say is that I have also had an overwhelming peace that has been so calming in the midst of craziness! It's been weird and unexplainable, but definitely good!

I had hoped to have pictures of the house construction, but I haven't been able to transfer them on to my laptop, so I'll have to do another post from Soon's. Anyway, the house is well under way and they have done SO much!! the outside brick has been replaced, the whole entire inside has been gutted and the rooms have been blocked out and ready for dry wall. Oh, and we have new windows! They look great! I've picked out siding, hardwood, carpet, paint, lighting, bathroom vanities....new bedding. I still have a few things left on my list as well as the whole kitchen to pick out, but we're making progress! We have been on a serious time crunch, as we need to vacate our apartment June1st. We just found out that the inspectors are not able to get to the house in time, which puts everything back another month! So needless to say, I was stressing about where we are going to live, the possibility of moving AGAIN before the actual move and packing up so quickly...it has just been A LOT. And that along with the other stresses of life, my mental health has been questionable! LOL BUT as usual the Lord worked everything out and, for now, we're able to extend our stay at our apartment. Righ now it just seems like we'll never move in it's just a dream...BUT if you follow me on facebook, then this is all old news! Sooo on to the new/more interesting...

Maddie's 2nd birthday party is Saturday and I'm super excited for that! I will have pictures of that and our recent trip to Butler's Orchard very soon! She's growing up so fast...I can't believe it!!!

I mean seriously...I just want to squeeze her constantly...and I do!

So I've gone a month since writing a post, so it wouldn't be right for me not to include some Stella & Dot News! So here you go!
Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky was just recently spotted on the red carpet wearing Stella & Dot's new Casablanca Bib Necklace! I haven't worn mine yet, but this is definitely inspiring! Love her and love the necklace! Get yours here!

Butterfly Dreams Hair Band by Clara Clips

Butterfly Dreams Hair Band in Pink and Pale Green

Doesn't this make you think of Spring?  This hair band has been designed, hand cut and stitched by Clara Clips.  Clara's shop features all sorts of felt goodies!  I was immediately drawn to the finger puppets she has created, as well as the vintage styled dress up dolls.  Her shop also carries felted purses and all kinds of fun hair accessories.  All of the items in the shop have been designed and created by Clara.

Travel with JK!

OK, the last time I was in San Francisco was about 10 years ago, on a trip with my college roommates.  We saw the sights, went to the broadway, and ate and laughed til we were sick.  Good times.  Memories like this need to be cherished.  Which I do, around my neck.  :)  I love the "city stick" charm series which celebrate destinations all over the globe, from Rome to Hawaii.  And even if you've never been to an exotic location, but have dreams to someday, live through your charm til your dreams come true!!

P.S.  Click the "like" right below this post--a new addition to my blog!  Do your part to share the JK love!!

Shop Spotlight: My Victorian Cottage

In the spotlight this month is My Victorian Cottage. I am pleased to feature a vintage shop for the very first time in the Shop Spotlight segment. Dianne, the shop owner runs her shop out of beautiful Ontario. Her shop specializes in vintage housewares, fabric, buttons, linens, notions, and clothing sourced from local estates.

I fell in love with all of her vintage treasures and I know you will too. Vintage has a very huge place on Etsy and I am proud to bring a part of all that vintage goodness to the Shop Spotlight.

Oh Canada: Of all the things that you sell, which item or style is your favorite?

Dianne: Vintage fabrics and textiles are my favourite. I think it's genetic. I learned to sew when I was very young and I remember my father feeling all the fabrics in stores. When I got involved with vintage I just gravitated to that.

Oh Canada: When did you develop an interest in vintage items?

Dianne: I went to an auction over 20 years ago and got hooked right away. Then like many dealers I started selling so I could keep buying. The buying is the best part.

Oh Canada: Why do you have such a love for vintage wares?

Dianne: I rarely buy anything retail, even then it has to be some kind of deal. I love that vintage is different. It's not what everybody else has. It's very inexpensive compared to new. It's my lifestyle now.

Oh Canada: How do you select which vintage items to add to your shop? Where do you find your vintage treasures?

Dianne: I select a lot of my items to sell because they fit through "the slot". Postage is the bane of my internet selling existence. That said, I also list things that I really don't expect to sell. I buy for shows and rather than have things just waiting I list them for the exposure, like vintage metal tackle boxes. Anything metal is so current and whenever I list or renew a tackle box they get immediate hearts and are chosen for treasuries. I have sold a few on etsy but they are more for the exposure value.

I shop at auctions, thrift stores, the outdoor antique markets. Aberfoyle is the best locally, and twice a year I go to Brimfield, Massachusettes for the biggest outdoor shows ever. First show is in May and I absolutely can't wait. When the team was talking about vacations on beaches I was thinking about my upcoming road trip. For me, that's the best vacation.

Oh Canada: Any plans to incorporate a new product into your shop this year?

Dianne: This business is a lot about reinventing yourself to stay current, always trying new things. I did recently start selling the pillows and bags I sew in a new etsy shop.

Oh Canada: What is your favorite thing about selling on Etsy?

Dianne: I still love that total surprise when I check in and I have a sale. I love the new Activity Feed. I also love that buyers aren't afraid to spend money here because they recognize the value of Etsy.

Oh Canada: Do you have a number one tip for new sellers?

Dianne: Of course, you need good pictures. I think you need to be offering something that people want to buy. I don't know exactly. Etsy is still a lot of mystery to me, why some people get so popular and others don't. I like being on the Oh Canada Team. Etsy is a huge place and this makes for some sense of community. List and relist too for exposure in the searches. I know not everybody agrees with the relist thing.

Oh Canada: What is your favorite thing to buy on Etsy?

Dianne: I'm too practical. I think the best things to buy are supplies, zippers, findings, fabric, etc. So much choice and really good prices.

Oh Canada: What is the number one best item in your shop right now?

Dianne: The buttons are my best sellers. I just have to keep focused and list more.

Visit My Victorian Cottage to see her lovely selection of vintage wares. You can also keep up with Dianne in her two other shops. In From The Workroom you will find beautiful sewn items from mostly vintage fabrics, linens, lace, and trims. In Button Lane you will discover unique vintage button charm bracelets. So head on over and have a look. Dianne will be glad to have you stop by.

And the Winner is...

Congratulations to Yermit for winning the March OCT Treasury Challenge. She has chosen this item from her shop for the April Challenge.

Please include this Softie Doll in a treasury with at least 10 other Oh Canada Team Members. What would be really great is if the last 6 are also Canadian Etsians too, but they certainly don't have to be.

Also, be sure to tag your treasury with "OCT challenge", "ohcanadateam" and "etsyteams" and include the phrase "OCT challenge" somewhere in your title so your treasury can be easily found.

The Challenge will end on May 3rd at midnight. Over the week following we will gather the votes for the most popular T.
